One of the unsung gems of the Creative Commons music world is the experimental music surveys put out by Classwar Karaoke. These are huge. The last one, No. 14, is 41 tracks that comes in at just over four hours. I cannot recommend these highly enough. Also, the best way to listen to them is in random mode. It is a shame that I have not written about these before, but I’ll make sure I do so in the future.
In the guise of Kalistongue, Andrew Howes has put together An Habitual Condition, a free release of tracks he has released on the Classwar Karaoke surveys.
Howes has had work appear on CJC/Leep (Colin Johnco Records), Electronic Musik and SuRRism Phonoethics.
Although An Habitual Condition exists in the closed culture side of the world, it can't be considered a B-side extended play release, there’s nothing sub-prime about this work. The thirteen tracks that were released over a two-year period are collages of heavily processed sounds, chopped vocals and some exceptional off-centered editing.
